We are in the era of data driven decision making. This is important, we want to be responsive to our class, and responsive to each and every child. With new technology and responsive software, we can see where each student is quickly and accurately. This helps us make mid-course corrections, and adjust to the needs of our students.
But, how do we balance that with keeping our students at the center or their own learning? First, by listening. Listen to what our students are telling us about their own learning, and the ways we are teaching to them, or even better, by the opportunities we are creating for them and with them. How are the students responding to information offered through traditional text? How do our students respond to opportunities to design their own method of feedback and sharing? Are we giving opportunities for students to influence their own choice of input and pacing? All of this can happen at the same time that we are adjusting content and delivery based on data feedback .
